  • The cements that we produce in-house for our Nycor products ensure maximum belt and splice adhesion.
  • With over 40 years of experience Shingle Belting

Shingle Belting Frequently Asked Questions  Do you have any suggestions for improving my Profile Extrusion splice?
  • The heat paddle should not have product build-up on it, which causes splice contamination & failure.
  • When closing the joiner, do not apply too much pressure as this can cause the molten material to squeeze out thus reducing bond strength.
  • Do not apply too little pressure to the joiner as this results in decreased flash around the splice and splice failure
  • Check your welder occasionally as decreased voltage due to long extension cords or other electrical problems that lower heat paddle temperature can prevent it from reaching the required melt temperature.

Shingle Belting Frequently Asked Questions  What are the advantages of Polyflex over traditional plied belting?
  • Polyflex's homogeneous construction maximizes hygiene as it is easily cleaned, thereby reducing potential bacteria build-up
  • The non-reinforced versions have no fabric to string/delaminate which eliminates potential product contamination
  • It is easily repaired, eliminating costly belt replacements
  • The splice tools are simple, lightweight/portable; low profile; and inexpensive compared to bulky, time-consuming vulcanizers
  • The splice technique is very fast for "zero" downtime

Shingle Belting Frequently Asked Questions  What are some of the keys to properly tracking a conveyor belt?
  • The splice should be square and aligned properly.
  • The conveyor frame must be aligned and on plain with the floor.
  • Make sure the end pulleys and idlers are square.
  • Material should be loaded evenly across the belt and not on one side.

Shingle Belting Frequently Asked Questions  How can we maximize cover life on our SG nylon core belt?
  • Avoid excessive heat as this can cause the rubber cover to crack (see the Nycor Catalog for temperature ratings).
  • Follow the belt's minimum pulley rating.

Shingle Belting Frequently Asked Questions  How can I maximize the performance of my un-reinforced Polyflex belting?
  • Polyflex belting must be pre-tensioned at a minimum of 1 % tension during installation (see pretension guidelines in the Thermoplastic Catalog).
  • Stay within the recommendation temperature guidelines.
  • Consult the factory to make sure your Polyflex compound meets your application requirements.

Shingle Belting Frequently Asked Questions  What can I do to extend the life of my nylon core cone pulley belt?
  • Use the proper width belt. When edge cracks occur it is often due to edge fatigue caused by excessive stress from using too wide of a belt. Always use the narrowest belt possible that will deliver the proper HP.
  • Make sure your shifters are in good operating condition. Edge wear can result from poor shifters or the belt riding too hard on the shifter.
  • Be sure that the splicing instructions are being followed properly.
  • Check your adhesives to make sure they have not passed their shelf life.

Shingle Belting Frequently Asked Questions  What are some of the keys to extending belt splice life?
  • Make sure the pulleys are not too small. Check the minimum pulley diameters in the appropriate catalog.
  • Do not overload the belt with product, torque or excessive tension.
  • Be sure that the splicing instructions are being followed properly.
  • Check your adhesives to make sure they have not passed their shelf life.
